Fazlee Shamim Ehsan is a prominent figure in Bangladesh's garment industry, serving as the Executive President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and as the Managing Director of Fatullah Apparels Ltd. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing sustainability, ethical practices, and technological innovation within the sector.
Ehsan embarked on his career in the apparel industry in 1998 after graduating from NRI Institutes in Bangalore. In 2012, he established Fatullah Apparels Ltd. Under his guidance, the company has become a model of eco-friendly manufacturing, achieving the prestigious LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council with a score of 97 out of 110. This accomplishment underscores his commitment to sustainable practices and positions Bangladesh as a leader in green garment manufacturing.
As Executive President of BKMEA, Ehsan has championed several initiatives aimed at improving the industry's standards. He has been a vocal advocate for fair pricing, leading efforts to introduce a "fair price app" in collaboration with the Sustainable Textile Initiative: Together for Change (STITCH). This tool assists factories and brands in negotiating equitable prices with foreign buyers, promoting transparency and fairness in the global supply chain.
Ehsan has also prioritized worker welfare by promoting gender-sensitive workplaces. He has overseen the establishment of complaint committees in BKMEA member factories to address issues of gender discrimination and sexual harassment, aligning with legal directives to ensure safer working environments.
Under his leadership, Fatullah Apparels Ltd. has integrated advanced Management Information Systems (MIS) to enhance operational efficiency. The implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems has streamlined production planning, inventory management, and quality control, enabling the company to monitor performance metrics in real-time and make data-driven decisions.
