Introductory meeting among BKMEA, UNFPA Bangladesh and Jhpiego was held at BKMEA Dhaka office to explore collaborative efforts in addressing family planning issues in Bangladesh’s knitwear sector.
BKMEA president Mohammad Hatem, vice President Mohammad Rashed and director Minhazul Hoque were present at the meeting.
On the other hand, Jessica Mirano, Senior Program Officer for Monitoring, Learning, and Evaluation, The Challenge Initiative (TCI), Jhons Hopkins University; Kojo Lokko, TCI’s Executive Director and Thahina Zaman, Development practitioners from UNFPA Bangladesh were present at the event.
Jhpiego creates and delivers transformative health care solutions that save lives. In partnership with national governments, health experts and local communities, Jhpiego builds health providers’ skills and develops systems that save lives now and guarantee healthier futures for women and their families.
The discussion focused on searching the scope of working on the family planning services for the workers in the knitwear sector, which plays a critical role in the country’s economy.
Emphasizing the association’s commitment to improving the well-being of knitwear workers through strategic partnerships and initiatives, BKMEA president Mohammad Hatem said, ‘we are always eager to work for the betterment for the workers in the sector.’
The meeting marked the beginning of a promising collaboration aimed at identifying actionable solutions and scaling up sustainable family planning interventions in the factories and communities connected to the knitwear industry.
