Largest Garments Workers Festival 2009 Organized by BKMEA

In consequences of previous year, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association organized the largest garments workers festival on 18 December 2009 at Osmani Stadium, Narayanganj, Bangladesh. About hundred fifty thousand garments workers thronged the daylong event to seek relief from the rigid daily routine. Advocate Shamsul Hoque, the State Minister for Home and Labor Minister, Engr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain joined the grand occasion.

The program started with the national anthem by the workers.  The main attraction of the fair was the day long cultural programs attended by the workers from different garments. Besides, BKMEA arranged a daylong folk fair, featuring local games, including elephant and horse ride and monkey games, lathi khela (athletic show with bamboo sticks), puppet show, merry-go-round, bioscope and sale of different traditional potteries. To continue and spread its awareness raising drive, the BKMEA as usual maintained information stalls and training on social compliance and health safety issues.

In the evening, prominent singers Balam and Shahnaz Belly also charmed the audience. The last attraction of the festival was the splendid firework show that dazzled the surrounding sky.
