New budget to extend due cooperation to BKMEA along with bank loans rescheduling on easy terms Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith today said that the new budget would extend due cooperation to the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) along with ensuring easy terms in rescheduling bank loans, reports BSS,
At a meeting held between the finance minister and the BKMEA leaders here, Muhith assured that the proposed budget would announce a significant amount to support the sector to help it face the impact of ongoing global economic recession.
The finance minister also said that the outline of the proposed support package for the sector would be finalised in the next taskforce meeting to be held next month, a BKMEA press release said.
During the meeting, BKMEA president Fazlul Haq apprised the finance minister that the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are the worst sufferers of the global economic crunch. “Although the government has announced a budget of Taka 5,000 crore for this purpose, there is no specific announcement for the RMG sector,” he said.
The BKMEA leader urged the finance minister to form a sub- committee to address the problems of the global economic meltdown and also to simplify the rules and regulations in respect of cash incentives for this sector.
BKMEA leaders M A Baset, M A Rahman and Dr Abdul Moyeen, among others, were present.
