Business DeskBangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) has undertaken an initiative to improve productivity of the country’s apparel sector and ensure social compliance in the industry. For this purpose, the BKMEA will organise trainings on productivity, merchandising, customs and commercial training, industrial planning and quality management for the industry.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed Saturday between the Institute of Apparel Research and Technology (iART) and Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), UK for carrying out expansion works of the institute. The MoU was signed under the auspices of Bangladesh Knitware Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), a BKMEA press release said in Dhaka.
BKMEA has taken an initiative to build an Institute of Apparel Research and Technology (IART) for boosting the quality of mid-level management, workers and various technical officials to the country’s knit industries at Chandmari in Narayanganj. The institute will be built under the technical assistance of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO). The MoU was singed under the joint initiative of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).
The institute will impart training and carryout research works on productivity improvement, social compliance, merchandizing, customs and commercial training, industrial planning and quality management for the country's highest export earning ready made garments. With AKM Selim Osman, President of BKMEA was in the chair while Md Golam Hossain, Commerce Secretary was present as chief guest at the signing ceremony.
Mentionable that for providing technical assistance to the project BKMEA singed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the UNIDO recently.
Under the agreement UNIDO will provide all technical assistance to the institute. Already it has completed all interior structural works. Machineries will be set up after construction of training class room and other office rooms.
