Staff Correspondent

Country’s knitwear exporters on Sunday asked the government to provide them with subsidy on interest rate on bank loans to help face global recession.
The chairman of the Bangladesh Knit Manufacturers and Exporter Association along with some other members of the trade body on Sunday met the central bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman at his office and raised their demand for the subsidy on the bank interest rate.
‘The Bangladesh Bank has given a positive response to our demand’, the BKMEA chairman Fazul Hoq told reporters after the meeting. He said, ‘Giving subsidy to the knitwear industries is necessary in the wake of global recession.’
‘The government is mulling to provide the knitwear sector with two to three per cent subsidy on bank interest rate,’ said Khandokar Majaharul Haque, the executive director of the BB who also attended the meeting.
