Govt to streamline trade policy, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha. Dhaka.

The commerce minister, Faruq Khan, Tuesday said if required the existing trade policies would be streamlined for bringing a revolutionary change in the country’s trade and commerce.
‘We want to make the trade policies time-befitting and I called upon the businessmen to let the government know about the policies those are hindering the economic activities,’ he said while iaugurating a four-day international fair dubbed ‘Garmentech’ at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka.
Zak Trade and Exhibitions Private Limited and Zakaria Trade and Fair International, Dhaka jointly organised the fair.
A total of 250 participants from 25 countries are displaying their products including RMG accessories, Netware and heavy laundry machinery in the show.
President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Annisul Huq, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association Anwarul Alam Chowdhury Parvez, president of Bangladesh Netware Manufacturers and Exporters Association Fazlul Haque and chairman of Zakaria Group Zakaria Bhuiyan spoke on the occasion.
Faruq Khan described the new government as business-friendly and said it wanted to help each and every businessmen of the country by providing them with policy support.
Identifying the power outages as one of the problems in the business sector, the minister said the problem would be solved within one and a half years.
‘The people of the country have installed the government with overwhelming support and thus we want to work for the people of all spheres of life,’ said the minister.
He noted with appreciation that the businessmen are honest and efficient people and said ‘If the businessmen work in a coordinated effort with the government, we would be able to implement our vision of ‘Digital Bangladesh’ by 2021’.
Annisul Huq pointed out that the businessmen have suffered in the last 20 years due to the country’s chaotic political situation and international economic disasters. He said Bangladesh’s economy might be a victim of the global recession and suggested the government for undertaking urgent steps to face the challenges of the slowdown.
Zakaria Bhuiyan said they wanted to bridge the technological gap between the participating countries. The main objective of the exposition is to increase trade not only to maximise capital but also developing technological know-how.
Terming the RMG sector the lifeline of the country’s economy, Fazlul Haque said the economic and social development would not be possible without technological advancement.
Anwarul Ul Alam Parvez said Bangladesh had been one of the major players across the world encouraged by the government’s sincere supports including back-to-back letter of credit and bonded warehouse facilities.
