BKMEA’s working tie with UNIDO
UNIDO has long focused on the specific needs of LDCs in line with the global consensus on the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and the Brussels Programme of Action for LDCs, which called for building LDCs’ productive capacities (commitment 4) and enhancing the role of trade in development (commitment 5). UNIDO’s strategy for supporting LDCs has been multi-dimensional, ranging from a greater allocation of technical cooperation resources to LDC-specific initiatives to global forum activities focusing on the specific needs of LDCs.
BKMEA considers itself lucky to have been associated with UNIDO in implementation of an international standard training center namely “Institute of Apparel Research and Technology” (IART). From this training center, BKMEA has been imparting trainings for the top level, mid-level and lower level officers of the member factories on social compliance, fire safety, productivity improvement, structural development, lean tool, production management, customs and UD, TALLY Software etc. The center has special attention for skill development and UNIDO helps develop tools and mechanism on that issue. We also school workers on how they can improve their sewing capability.
